Most high, glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me, Lord, a correct faith, a certain hope, a perfect charity, sense and knowledge, so that I may carry out Your holy and true command.
- Francis of Assisi
Balancing our love for God with our work in the world can seem daunting. As Lutherans, our life’s work has a richer and deeper dual focus. God calls us to live in Christ through faith and in our neighbor through love. That’s why we are committed to living out our mission by daily, “Proclaiming Jesus Christ...so that all may know and grow...in faith toward You and in fervent love toward one another.” The freedom of faith is the freedom for love.
Faith | God’s Word is holy.
Faith is the foundation for the Christian life. God’s Word is written on our hearts - held closely to us constantly and continually. It sanctifies us - makes us holy - and through the Holy Spirit guides us through the chaos of a social world. In God’s Word we discover Him and our identify as His children.
Love | Bears fruit in love for the neighbor.
Each Christian, in all walks of life, is called by God to perform good works as a service of love to his neighbor. Bearing the name of Christ and motivated by the Holy Spirit, believers are obligated to serve others in our congregations, families and communities. Members of our faith community are united in Christ’s love, equipped to serve and care sacrificially, boldly, and confidently.
“ The best and highest station in life is to love God and one’s neighbor. “
- Martin Luther
